STUDENT TEACHER TEN-PACK

Ten private lessons with student teachers for $320.00. This is a significant savings over the regular student teacher rates. Three-month expiration.

MENTORING PROGRAM

If you’ve ever wished you could add another private lesson to your schedule but couldn’t afford to, read on.

Clients who are taking one private lesson a week with a faculty or senior faculty member may participate in our Mentoring Program as follows:

During your regular private lesson, a student teacher will observe and take notes.

In your additional lesson with the student teacher, the student teacher will reproduce and build out from the observed lesson, under the advisement of your regular teacher.

We see this as a way to provide continuity to our clients while making less expensive student teacher rates available to you, and furthering the education of our student teachers through the mentoring process. Regular student teacher rates or student teacher ten-pack rates apply.

FEBRUARY 9th - WHAT IS THE PELVIC FLOOR?

And why is it important? A healthy, well-toned pelvic floor supports our abdominal organs and works in harmony with the movements of the abdomen, spine and hips. In pregnancy the pelvic floor must support a rapidly increasing load, and often the post-partum pelvic floor is compromised, leading to Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI) and/or prolapse. It’s important for men as well--new research with functional MRI’s reveals a strong correlation between pelvic floor insufficiency and low back pain and instability. We’ll look at the anatomy and function of the musculature, engage in movement explorations designed to activate and tone the PF, and link it to the Pilates repertoire. Attendees will learn a home program for pelvic floor awareness and health that requires no special equipment. This workshop is a more fully developed version of the Pelvic Floor Workshop Martina taught last summer.

Martina Enschede earned a master’s degree in Speech and Vocal Therapy from the Academy of Speech Therapy in the Netherlands. She loves to sing and dance and, following graduation from the Academy of Pop Music in Amsterdam, toured through Europe with several musical productions. She moved to New York City in 2000.
In 2002, Martina received her Pilates certification from the Kane School of Core Integration, NYC, and has taken workshops with Helge Fisher and Sally Donnehauer. She taught Pilates at Riverside Pilates, Manhattan, and Riverspa, Irvington-on-Hudson, and has worked with healthy people, pregnant and post-partum women, and clients with knee/hip replacements, scoliosis, shoulder/neck injuries, carpal tunnel syndrome, osteoporosis and other conditions.

Martina is currently challenging her own pelvic floor with a pregnancy!

MARCH 29th - KEEPING YOUR BALANCE

Ever step off a curb and have to ‘catch’ yourself? Is standing on one leg a distant memory (or frequent fantasy)? Everyone would like to feel secure on their own two feet. The good news is that balance can improve dramatically with a little training. In this workshop you’ll learn about the components of balance and gait, how to improve your balance through safe, challenging exercises, how to safely ramp up the level of challenge -- and take home some exercises to strengthen the muscles most utilized in balance. We’ll spend a bit of time on some common balance problems and we’ll get in a workout for the hips, lower limbs and (believe it or not) the eyes and ears. This workshop and workout are for anyone interested in understanding and/or improving their balance, whatever their level of experience with Pilates.

Pilates has improved my general sense of well being. I feel better, stronger, younger and taller.
