Kristina Deimel • Faculty

Kristina’s lifelong love of anatomy, her fascination with how the body works, and her interest in health and disease led her to develop an early and abiding interest in sports and movement. She has enjoyed rock climbing, long-distance bicycling and competitive running, and still participates actively in walking, hiking, bicycling and gardening. In 1980, Kristina earned a B.S. in horticulture from Virginia Tech; she is currently an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and a NYS wildlife rehabilitator.
Following completion of The Moving Body’s Pilates Teacher Training Program, Kristina joined the studio’s faculty in 2006.
Pilates is a natural progression to my personal exercise history. When I decided to enroll in The Moving Body’s Pilates Teacher Training Program, I had just closed my children’s wear company, a business I had operated for 15 years. I was taking a break and considering my next steps. I have practiced yoga for many years but I had no Pilates experience at all. I was curious and decided to give it a shot. Pilates really took me by surprise – I fell in love with it!
What I like best about Pilates is that it allows me to continue to learn how the body works on a deeper level. I love taking my knowledge of the body into another exercise realm to help students who come to The Moving Body.
I have seen incredible changes in my own body, and in the bodies of the students I work with here. I love sharing that and inspiring others to make changes for themselves through Pilates. And, I really like the fact that all of the teachers at The Moving Body are coming from a little different place. Unlike the other teachers here, I have no background in dance though I do practice yoga and am always actively moving my body. Each of us is allowed to express our own individuality in our teaching and we’re really encouraged to find out about our students’ bodies and work from that place.
The Moving Body is a great environment; it’s relaxed, we all work together, and there’s good energy in the studio.

I look forward to my workouts and the infusion of good energy. I’m much stronger now – and a half-inch taller too!
