Christine Becker • Director

Christine received her Pilates training at SUNY Purchase in 1993 from Romana Kryzanowska, and her Gyrotonic® training in NYC in 1997 from Juliu Horvath. She studied bodywork at the Muscular Therapy Institute, is a graduate of the Florida School of Massage, and is licensed in New York state as a massage therapist. Christine holds professional memberships in the Pilates Method Alliance (PMA), the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA) and the Feldenkrais Guild of North America.
An avid student, she has enriched her understanding of ‘the moving body’ through many continuing education courses, and has been especially inspired by the work of Irene Dowd, Jean-Claude West, and Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen. She is currently a student in a Feldenkrais Practitioner Training Program, and expects to graduate in 2009.
Prior to opening The Moving Body in Woodstock in 1995, Christine was director of The Pilates Movement Center in Westport, CT. In addition to her work as a movement teacher, she has maintained a private bodywork practice since the mid-1980s. Her abiding interest is in helping people achieve greater health, vitality and embodiment through movement.
As director of The Moving Body, Christine is very involved in developing the Pilates Teacher Training Program and other continuing education offerings.
Movement is the most gratifying and effective venue for real change that I have ever encountered. Exercise, when approached intelligently, is invigorating and fun while you are doing it, and enhances all aspects of daily life, almost immediately. People feel more confident and relaxed, and sleep better. I love to help people who have little or no background of physical training discover the joy of movement and establish a movement practice that works for them, one that fulfills the promise of Pilates.
I’m very excited about The Moving Body’s Pilates Teacher Training Program—it’s a way to harvest the training and experience of our studio’s faculty and pass it on to new teachers. The development of this program has been much enhanced by my experience of the training in which I am a student – the Feldenkrais Practitioner Training Program. As with all teaching, I learn as much as the trainees do – or more – by teaching this material.
I’m looking forward to developing more continuing education courses, as well. The movement community in our region has become so much more robust in the past few years, with many more yoga, Pilates, dance and martial arts studios than ever before. I’m hoping to create an environment for continued learning that will support the development of this community.
I feel very fortunate to be able to do the work that I love!

Chris is incredibly adept on adjusting form--a turn here, a tuck there--to activate the correct muscles.
