Anne Zanchetti    Senior Faculty

Anne Marie began her dance training in Tucson, and received her BFA in dance from the University of Arizona. After graduation, she moved to NYC and became a soloist in the Paul Sanasardo Dance Company. She also danced with Manuel Alum, Ricardo Viviani, and Lynn Barr, in the U.S. and in Europe. Anne Marie was a founding member of Les Muses D’Arbeau (Renaissance Dance Company), Woodstock, and remains active as a choreographer and performer with Viviani.

She has taught dance extensively in NYC and in the Hudson Valley, and has been a faculty member of the New School for Social Research in NYC, SUNY New Paltz, and Dutchess County Community College in Poughkeepsie, NY. Since 1991, Anne Marie has assisted Lynn Barr, director of the SUNY New Paltz Summer Dance Program, as teacher, choreographer and Pilates instructor; from 1991-2002, the program was conducted at University of Urbino, Italy, and, since 2003, in Prague.

Anne Marie joined The Moving Body teaching staff in 1997. She teaches Pilates and is a trainee supervisor in our Pilates Teacher Training Program.

I’ve taught dance since the mid-1980s and believe teaching should be a continuous learning process for both student and teacher. That is what keeps you fresh, inspired and interested. In my teaching, I include many different areas of knowledge, so of course I have integrated my Pilates training into each of the dance classes I teach, whether it’s ballet, jazz or modern technique.

At The Moving Body, we offer invaluable tools to everyone who comes into the studio. Thoughtful movement originating from a strong core and good postural alignment are essential for any type of movement, be it sitting for hours at a computer, skiing down a mountain or pirouetting flawlessly.

I’ve seen clearly how Pilates changes things for dancers. Now, I also see how it produces even more significant change for non-dancers: Pilates is, in some ways, more life changing for people who have been away from movement or exercise, or people who have never made movement a part of their lives.

On a personal note, the body-knowledge and strength I have gained from training and working at The Moving Body has made it possible for me to still be dancing and performing today.

It’s a very calming atmosphere, even though everyone’s working so hard. Pilates is definitely worth all the effort you put into it.
